Harold Denys Bown is my fathers name, and where the business
gets it’s initials from.
He began trading as a sole trader under the name of H.D.B. Signs, at
the age of 60 in June 1988. With over 20 years of experience in sign making, painted and engraved
for a very well known large factory and employer in Grimsby.
As from a small boy, I have always wanted to follow in my father’s
foot steps. Even now I can only imagine what a daunting task, of setting out on your
own must have been like then. The uncertainty of the future and the customer base, as for more than
¾ of his working life as an employee. When most men would have been thinking more of retirement than going
self-employed. He retired at the age of 70 after passing down his skills and knowledge
to me over the years, of not just engraving but also the running of the
business. For a small family business to go from strength to strength and to survive
the very competitive market of sign making over the past 10 years without
any hard cell advertising, just word of mouth and customer loyalty and
the competitiveness of H.D.B Signs is in itself a tribute to my father. I hope to carry on where
he left off, to provide the quality and service that you have come to expect from
H.D.B. Signs. With new idea’s, new technology and the partnership of Geoff &
Sue, we are pushing forward to the future in the way of production and service.
Once again on behalf of my father, Sue and myself would like to take
this opportunity to thank you for your continued custom.
